Program

Adults interested in making ART are invited to learn how to create fine art from a seasoned National Endowment Fellow and professional  MFA Painter and Graphic Artist Dan Freeman in Leafy Lefferts Gardens Brooklyn, one block away from Ebbets Field. 

We’ll cover concepts of how to not only see but observe and perceive, and translate your perceptions into conceptions and ultimately–creations.

For Adult students, in these classes we will cover color, black and white, sketching, drawing and painting.  We are making three offerings— three different options to study with me. 

 Drawing Program

You will learn The Natural Way to Draw :

Contour, Gesture, weight and modeled drawing

Drawing from memory

Form, technique, light and shade

Choose from Painting and Drawing: Academic Still-Life, Classical Figure painting and Abstract Art

Collage with found and colored papers 

All Classes are open to all students age 18 and up,.

 Painting Program

You will learn how to paint with acrylics from a variety of reference points, whether it is from experience or imagination

Abstract painting: Shapes colors and raw compositional techniques 

Figurative, Still life, and landscape painting

Paint application techniques, from Alla Prima-to-Wet over Dry

Choose from Classes —Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm

All Classes are open to all students age 18 and up, unless Child is Bona Fide Advanced Placement High School Student with signed formal Parental Permission agreement.

Graphic Art Program

You will be  instructed how to use the World Standard Adobe Creative suite Graphic Design Applications—Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. In this class you will use Photoshop and Illustrator to design for print design of Brochures, Flyers and Newsletters as you bring in Graphics from these programs and lay them out in InDesign.

For students taking 8 classes and up, we will move into the Web design world.  Instruction in Adobe® Xd, where we will take you conceeptions created in Illustrator , Photoshop, Muse, and Indesign into User Experience wireframe creation for all mobile devices prior to code development. (Hint – That means NO coding!) 

For this class you are required to bring your own laptop computer. You will have access to online support as you work through your projects from home during the week and in class on Sundays. There is a $50 dollar educational materials fee payable at the beginningof classes.

Classes are Sundays in the afternoon, from 3-5pm, or 5:30-7:30pm.

Art In The Park – Landscape Painting WEEKENDS

Class will learn from Mother Nature how to paint and draw natural forms in the relaxing atmosphere found in leafy Prospect Park ( within walking distance) which has been referred to as the ‘Jewel of Brooklyn’ and designer Fredrick Law Olmstead’s masterpiece.

I . Academic Still-life and Perspective Drawing, Tues, 5:30-7:30pm

Description: This is a foundation course for those who wish to understand how perspective drawing works, and then learn how to draw in one and two-point perspectives. This includes printed handouts, short video lectures, and demonstrations.

II. Classical Figure Drawing Mondays, 5:30-7:30pm

Description: Drawing from life and photographic reference, here we shall learn how to draw the human figure in an informal setting with no embarrassment. Starting with the basic building blocks of contour and gesture drawing, Students create pictures that go beyond stick figures to life-like renditions of what you see. Proportion and in-depth video demonstrations  are all provided. This includes printed handouts, Short video lectures and demonstrations.

III. Portraiture – Drawing Faces Thursday 5:30-7:30pm

Description: Drawing from the figure and photographic resources, a study of how the face is drawn. The step-by-step approach of training how to draw the head in proportion using the traditional method, and the Loomis method. Proportion and in-depth video demonstrations are all provided. This includes printed handouts, short video lectures, and demonstration, as well included. 

IV. Drawing 1.01 Drawing Basics. Mondays 5:30 – 7:30

The full 17-class offering on the ACB Method of how to draw starting with the basics through Portraiture . This includes printed handouts, Short video lectures and demonstration, and model fees.

V. Painting – in – the Park Saturdays and Sundays 12-2:00 pm 

Painting in nearby Prospect Park weather permitting 

2 Sessions – 4 hours @$109.75

Description: This class includes a FREE  half-hour set-up time, so you can get all the time you need to paint and draw a portrait of the jewel of Brooklyn, Prospect Park. 

VI. Adobe® Computer Graphics –Wed 5:30-7:30pm 

Print and Web – Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, and XD

4 Sessions Minimum 8 hrs @ $214.49

12 Sessions (Recommended) – 24hrs @ $579.98

Description: Concentration in this course is on what a work-flow in Graphic Art is, and how it is put it into practice. Printed textbooks covering a plethora of activities working with sample files provided by AGI/ Wiley, PeachPit, Lynda and Adobe Publications are provided. Class time includes presentations with corresponding provided files, and time working on projects in class. Home work is essential in this class, and flexible scheduling is available in order to give the student a reasonable amount of time needed to work on these lessons at home.

A laptop computer is recommended, but special arrangements can be made to work on the Computers at the Brooklyn Public Library Information Commons. Students are requested to create their own projects.

This class is iPad and Apple Pencil friendly!
